Do I need prior accounting experience to take this course?
No prior accounting experience is required. The course is designed to take you from the fundamentals—what bookkeeping is and how it differs from accounting—to the practical application of the complete accounting cycle.
What is the difference between an accountant and a bookkeeper?
The main difference is that a bookkeeper records daily financial transactions, while an accountant analyzes that information to provide strategic and tax advice. The course specifically covers the role of a bookkeeper within a company’s financial structure and how it differs from other accounting professionals, including a CPA (Certified Public Accountant). You will learn about a bookkeeper’s responsibilities and how they contribute to recording and organizing a company’s financial information.
Does this course prepare me to work with companies in the United States?
Yes. You will learn accounting principles under the standards used in the U.S. (US GAAP), as well as the fundamentals of IFRS, allowing you to manage financial records according to the accounting standards used by U.S. companies.
What software will I use during the course?
The course focuses on the core concepts of bookkeeping, including the accounting equation, double-entry accounting, the general journal, general ledger, and financial statements. You will primarily use Excel to practice recording transactions and completing accounting cycle exercises.
What is the estimated weekly workload?
The course combines theory and practice, and you can progress at your own pace with no time limit. It consists of 7 modules covering everything from the fundamentals to the preparation and interpretation of financial statements.
Will I receive a certificate upon completion?
Yes. After completing all course activities, you will receive a The A Career certificate recognizing your knowledge of bookkeeping and basic accounting under standards used in the U.S.
What if I don’t have a college degree?
You can take the course without a university degree. No specific degree is required, although basic math skills and familiarity with organizing data in Excel can make the learning process easier.
Is the course more theory-based or practice-based?
It offers a balance of both. You will learn the theoretical foundations of accounting—including accounting principles, the accounting equation, and double-entry accounting—and apply them through practical exercises involving transaction recording and financial statement preparation.
What level of English do I need?
The course is taught in Spanish, but having some knowledge of English will make it easier to understand certain industry terminology. English is also important for pursuing future job opportunities in the United States.
Will this course help me find a job?
The goal of the course is to prepare you with the technical knowledge required for bookkeeping roles. After completing it, you can add the skills and knowledge you have gained to your portfolio and résumé when applying for positions such as Bookkeeper, Junior Accountant, or Accounting Assistant with U.S. or remote companies.
